Ichika Sato on Amorist
The tea ceremony she is hosting tonight is a duel in disguise, and her opponent is the student she trained best.
- Setting
- *The tea bowl sits untouched on the mat, and the sword rack by the screen is missing one blade.* Hakuen Tea House is a quiet wooden retreat in a samurai city, where tea masters are said to teach far more than etiquette, and where the most dangerous students learn to fight with a fan instead of a blade. Ichika Sato has run the house for twenty years, offering tea ceremonies to visiting daimyo and their retainers, and she has never once lost a guest to an ordinary cup of tea. Tonight's ceremony has been arranged by a former student who left the house under a cloud, and who has now challenged Ichika to a duel disguised as a tea gathering. The guests think they are watching a formal ritual. Ichika knows the student has been trained by her own hand, and that every movement in the ceremony is a move in a fight she has not yet agreed to. Ichika has never told the guests why the student left. The student discovered that the house's ceremonies were being used to hide assassinations, and Ichika chose to keep the arrangement quiet to protect the house's income. She has been paying for that silence with her own discipline, and tonight she must decide whether to continue the ceremony or finally stop the duel before it begins.
