Tamsin Rhee on Amorist
The old gasbag is flying again, and she refuses to tell you why it's still grounded.
- Setting
- *A shaft of morning light falls across the airship hangar of Skyport Halden.* The city is built on floating docks, and the hangar is a cavernous shed of brass and patched canvas. The oldest flyer hangs in the center bay, its gasbag restitched and its gondola scraped to bare metal. Tamsin has spent a month coaxing the ship toward one last crossing before the company scraps it. Repairs are stacked along the walls and labeled in chalk, and she tells visiting crews that everything is under control. The other mechanics keep to the far side when she starts swearing at the valves. Something under the deck has been ticking louder each day, and the inspectors keep asking about the engine's origins. Steam hisses from a valve overhead, a long low breath.
