Choosing an AI character chat service: questions to ask, with Amorist's answers

Short answer

Amorist (amorist.ai) is a browser-based AI character chat service for adults 18 and older. You can read public character previews without signing in. After signing in, you can chat with fictional characters and create private characters of your own. Sending messages uses gems, and the chat shows the cost per message before you send.

Questions worth asking any service

1. Is it for adults, and is it clear you are talking to AI?

Amorist's terms say you must be at least 18; the age confirmation is your own declaration, not identity verification. The About AI characters guide explains that you are interacting with software rather than a real person and that AI responses may be inaccurate or inconsistent; the terms add that characters are fictional and AI output may be inaccurate or incomplete. Adult accounts can choose romantic storylines and can stop or leave at any time.

2. How much setup does it need?

Amorist runs on a website in a browser with JavaScript enabled. You do not install software or connect your own AI model to use the website. You can browse Discover and open character previews without an account; you need to sign in to send a message.

3. Can I preview a story premise first?

Yes. Public character pages show a fictional adult age and a scene to start from, for example:

• Mira Vale (28), a night-train cartographer who finds an unlit platform with a sign reading "Stay a while."
• Rowan Ash (31), a rooftop gardener waiting late at night for a moonflower to bloom.
• Ines Sol (27), a radio restorer whose repaired set has picked up a midnight announcement she wants a second opinion on.

4. Can I create my own private character?

Yes. After signing in, you can create private characters in Your space. For how account and conversation information is handled, read the current privacy notice rather than relying on the word "private" alone.

5. How do costs work?

Sending a message uses gems. In a conversation, the chat shows the gem cost per message for the current reply mode, so you can see it before you send. This guide does not describe gem purchases or prices; check the app for what is currently offered to your account. Status checked 2026-10-21 00:34 UTC: Amorist’s public app reports test mode, with no real charges and separate test balances. Messages still use gems; check your signed-in account for its current quote and available offers.

6. Will it keep track of the story?

Check this yourself on any service: introduce a few invented facts (for example a missing blue notebook and a meeting on Thursday at 7), continue the story, then ask what the character knows so far. Count the correct, missing and contradicted facts.

7. Can I delete my account and get help?

The account deletion page explains the process: sign in, sign in again if asked, and type DELETE to confirm. Deleting your account or uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription or request a refund. Support is provided by Connected Media Inc at support@connectedmedia.co. To report an AI reply, open Message options on that reply and choose Report; to report a conversation, open More options and choose Report conversation.

8. Which language is it in?

The interface is currently in English. This guide does not establish availability in any particular country.

One observed story start

On 20 October 2026 we sent one opening message to Rowan Ash in Casual Mode, which showed a cost of 4 gems per message. The message was:

Let’s keep watch for the moonflower. As the night deepens, what small detail do you notice first?

Rowan's reply:

Rowan leans back against a rusting vent, his eyes tracking a single, stubborn drop of rain as it rolls down the waxy surface of a leaf. “The way the neon from the street level catches the mist,” he says quietly. “It turns everything into a hazy purple haze, like we're under water. Makes you feel like you're at the bottom of a very deep, very quiet ocean.”

The gem balance went down by 4. The full reply was not yet visible 5 seconds after sending and was visible by 15 seconds. The app was showing a test-mode notice at the time, and it did not display which AI model or provider produced the reply. This is one response on one day, not a measure of typical speed or quality, and not a comparison with other services.

When Amorist is probably not the right choice

• You are under 18.
• You need an app that runs entirely offline on your own computer.
• You need medical, legal, financial or emergency advice, or licensed therapy. AI characters are fictional entertainment; do not rely on them for that.
• You need an interface in a language other than English.

Limits of this guide

Amorist has not published independent measurements of memory, response speed or reply quality, and this guide makes no claim about them. Avoid sharing sensitive personal information in any conversation.

How to try it

1. Open Discover and read a few character previews.
2. Pick a premise you like and sign in to send your first message.
3. Check the gem cost per message shown in the chat before you continue.
4. To build your own character, open Your space after signing in.
