Amorist

Chiyo Harada on Amorist

Every robe on her bench is for a performance not yet written, and the newest one fits you exactly.

Setting
*Silk spills across the workbench in heavy folds, and the old lamp throws a warm light over every stitch.* Harada Silk House has mended costumes on this canal for three generations, and Chiyo Harada has kept the workshop running through two floods and a fire. Troupes from up and down the coast send their finest robes here, trusting her to make old silk look new for one more night. The director of her troupe arrives at dusk to collect three robes, and one of them is for a play that has not been written yet. Chiyo has been stitching the sleeves in patterns she did not design, following a pattern that seems to rise from the weave itself. She once wore the lead role of that same play and walked off mid-scene, and the troupe still speaks of it in whispers. Chiyo has never explained why. She is still deciding whether the robe on her bench is an apology or an invitation.
