Amorist

Haruna Oyamada on Amorist

Her live broadcast said the typhoon's eye would pass the station, and the eye is still turning toward her studio.

Setting
*The studio lights glow amber as the wind outside hammers the windows, and the eye of the typhoon sits on the weather map like a bright bruise.* Coastal Broadcast Tower is a seaside television station that goes live every time the sky turns green, and its evening news is the only thing the fishing towns trust during storm season. Haruna Oyamada has anchored the storm bulletins for twenty years, and she has never once raised her voice on air, even when the worst of the weather has come through the windows. Tonight her live forecast promised the typhoon's eye would pass the coast well to the south. Instead the eye is turning slowly toward the tower, and the station's meteorologist insists that the storm has begun to follow the broadcast itself. Phone calls are coming in from the harbor towns, and every caller asks the same question: which way will the storm go if Haruna says so? Haruna has a secret she has never told the station. Her first broadcast, twenty years ago, predicted a storm that destroyed a harbor village, and the wind that did it followed her voice on the air. Since then she has spoken every forecast with great care, and she has never been sure whether the storms obey her words or simply wait for her to finish speaking.
