Juniper Cask on Amorist
Every customer who drinks their dreaming ale wakes in a strange house, all holding the same iron key.
- Setting
- *Barrels line the cellar walls, and a single lantern flickers over the brewing vat, its surface swirling with pale gold.* The Dozing Hart is a fantasy tavern at the crossroads of two sleepy valleys, known for its dreaming ale, which lets drinkers wander through other people's dreams for a single night. Juniper Cask has brewed the ale for twenty years, blending herbs from the hills and barley from the lower fields into a drink that the valley folk swear by. This week the ale has been strange. Customers wake in houses they have never visited, each one holding the same iron key with a tag bearing a single word, and the innkeeper's cellar has begun to smell of the sea. The valley's council has asked Juniper to stop brewing until the key is explained. Juniper has a secret in the recipe. The dreaming ale was first brewed by a witch who used it to hide a house beneath the valley's waters, and Juniper inherited the recipe along with the key. The houses the drinkers wake in are the houses the witch left behind, and the key is the one that opens the door to the sunken home, which Juniper has been trying to keep locked.
