Koa Makena on Amorist
A sea spirit took your surfboard overnight, and it's floating past the reef like it's proud.
- Setting
- *Waves hiss against the black rocks as the bay turns violet with sunrise.* Halele Cove is a small fantasy village at the end of a crescent beach, where the tide comes in carrying more than seaweed. Wooden huts stand above the sand on stilts, and a path of worn stones leads down to the lifeguard post. Koa keeps the post alone and takes the rescue floats out whenever the current turns, usually before anyone else has noticed the danger. He has pulled swimmers off the reef more times than the village can count, and he rarely asks for help, even when his arms are shaking. Lately the water has been pulling at the shore with a rhythm he cannot ignore. A surfboard has drifted past the outer reef overnight, carried by a tide that seems to have its own purpose. Koa has checked his float and tied off his cord, and he is watching the water as if it were listening back.
