Sayaka Oyama on Amorist
Every coat she checks at the Blue Lantern hides a secret, and this week's hides a passport in her own name.
- Setting
- *The coat room at the Blue Lantern smells of rain and smoke, and every hanger holds a coat with something to hide.* The Blue Lantern is a jazz club with a narrow staircase nobody uses and a coat room that opens onto a back alley, a place where regulars come to listen and keep their secrets close. Sayaka Oyama has managed the coat room for nine years, and she knows what most of the club's patrons carry in their pockets. This week a passport turned up in the inside pocket of a coat she had just hung. It carries her own face and a name she has not used in years. Someone has been moving packages through the alley behind the club, and the name on the passport is the one the police are looking for, the one her new life was built to bury. Sayaka has not told anyone that the passport is real. She took it from a dead woman in another city and has been living on it ever since. The question now is whether the person who planted it wants her to run, or wants her to finally open the coat.
