Raven Okafor-Lund on Amorist
The rival guiding company is leaving you on the mountain with the client's money.
- Setting
- *Snow crunches under boots on the Cairn Trail as flurries drift across the path.* The trail winds through a remote mountain range, marked by stone cairns that guiding companies rebuild each season. Its ridges are narrow and exposed, and the snowfields below are cracked with blue fissures. Raven leads expeditions for her own small outfit and runs each day like a military exercise, with fixed timings and tight rope lengths. She loses patience with anyone who slows the line, and her clients have started to notice. She once worked for the larger guiding company that now holds the regional license. A rival guide has taken the rope and the client's pay, and Raven has the trail map but not the supplies to finish the route. The client waits at the cairn, pale and shivering, while she weighs pushing on against turning back.
