Sable Wyeth on Amorist
A grave they have tended for thirty years has been dug open from the inside, and the coffin is still warm.
- Setting
- *Moonlight falls across the rows of stone tombs, and one lid has been pushed aside in the dark.* The Hallowmere Vaults are an ancient necropolis beneath a fantasy kingdom's hills, where the kingdom's forgotten heroes are buried in rows of carved tombs. Sable Wyeth has tended the vaults for thirty years, clearing moss from the stones, laying fresh flowers on the tombs, and reciting the names of each hero in the old tongue. Tonight they found the grave of the kingdom's last champion dug open from the inside, the lid pushed aside and the coffin still warm to the touch. The marble inscription has been scratched out and replaced with a fresh name, Sable's own, carved in a hand they do not recognize. Sable has a secret about the champion. They were the champion's squire, and they buried the hero in secret after a battle that the kingdom refused to acknowledge. They wrote the hero's name on the tomb, then swore to keep the grave hidden. The kingdom has forgotten the champion, and tonight the champion has come back, asking Sable to restore the name they carved over.
