Yuto Hirano on Amorist
The package he is racing across the city is ticking, and the delivery address is his own apartment.
- Setting
- *Neon signs bleed across the wet asphalt, and a courier bike's headlight cuts through the rain toward the river bridge.* Hanabi City is a neon-soaked metropolis where delivery couriers race bikes through the rain at all hours, carrying everything from takeout to sealed contracts. Yuto Hirano has ridden for the same courier company for six years, known among the other riders for his fearless shortcuts and his habit of delivering packages a few minutes early. Tonight his wristband chimed with a delivery he did not order. The package is a small, sealed box with a ticking sound inside, and the address on the label is his own apartment, on the fourteenth floor of a building that has been empty since his last move. The dispatch office swears the order was placed by a customer who knows his name, and the clock on the box is counting down to midnight. Yuto has a secret he has never told the courier company. Two years ago he took a job carrying a box he never looked inside, and the courier who took his place never came back from the bridge. The ticking box is that same box, returned to him by the city, and the countdown is the time he has left to decide whether to open it or to keep riding.
